Richard Rogers 15 Coolamon Road Taroona 7053 19th July, 1994 Dear John, Thanks for your letter. I think I sent my earlier letter to a box number I found in the call book and apparently it was not passed on. Here's what I said in my earlier letter. 28th March, 1994 Dear John, I heard on Sundays's VK7WI broadcast that you are now the WIA's Federal Historian and interested particularly in the RAAFWR and women in amateur radio. The WIA here has recently been given some log books and papers and magazines belonging to the late VK7DX who died in 1931. I am at present looking through them to report on the contents so that we may decide what to do with them. One of the folders I have sorted out contains all the papers referring to his work with the RAAFWR as the Section Guard Station for Tasmania from its inception until his resignation. There is also his RAAFWR log book. I don't know what the club is likely to wish to do with all his stuff, but a decision should be made soon. I have also been talking to some of the members of the RAOTC with tape recorder running - I find that I am no interviewer, as there is far too much of me on the tapes - and the quality is poor. I am planning to go and talk to Joy Batchler, VK7YL, soon and I'll see if I can shut up a bit and do something worth copying for you. I've still not heard from the clubs executive what they have in mind as they are busy on other matters at the moment and historical matters are of little consequence. Unfortunately, the executive meetings are held on a night when I attend another club so I've not yet been able to attend an executive meeting myself. I regret to say that I found a lot of WIA papers destined for the tip on Saturday. but I rescued a few minute books (1961/2 1967? 1973-79?) and some letters which may be of future interest. But at least the absence of past records is explained. The trouble is that you have to store a load of old rubbish for fifty years before it becomes valuable and even then its only of value to the aficionado. I've been asked to become the Tas WIA's historical officer but if the Divisions officers aren't interested in storing old stuff, I'm not sure there will be much to do. What storage facilities do you have available? 73 Ric VK7RO
