A proposal for a Local Community Radio Station, to enhance the
information for the people of King Island.

The possibility to combined all Emergency services, Fishermen
and Farmer’s information services all into a radio set-up as a
volunteer organization to operate 24 hours a day if possible, this in
no way would interfere with the application currently used by the
emergency services but would be supplementary to them,
considering if there was a major emergency the quickest way to
contact people is by radio.

On any day we will all know what is going on, news of any delays
in our weekly shipping, emergency breakdown procedure, road
works etc. the radio would remind the public each day on local
current affairs including Medical, C. W. A. and club news, latest
local and overseas news, drawing on junior local talent where
possible, of course you “gotta” have CDs with some good music,
The thoughts are endless, visiting V | P, ex King Islanders and
people of interest giving an insight to their visit, council news,
location of clubs and events, the mind boggles with the endless
possibilities such as when the newspapers arrive from Tasmania
or Victorian, are the planes on time or being held up because a
weather all these things are information that somebody at some
time needed on the Island.

Basically this radio set-up would not be that expensive, a matter
of finding out what is required where it can be located and the
usual technical items such as interference and strength it could be
possible to receive on the standard car or household radio.

                             Special Note

We have the pledge of support from a number of interested parties
both in technical and administration including an Auditor who
would assist in the set-up of equipment and technical advice on
day to day running or up grade of equipment as and when
required.

We have applied to the A.B.A. for a frequency allocation under the
regulations for a FM band, and advertise for a suitable qualified
committee of interested residents to administrate and run the
station for the benefit of the whole community.
