                                                       10th August, 1994

       Dear John,
I enclose herewith a folder of papers, a log book
and three photos from the estate of the late Trevor Watkins,
VK7DX which refer to his activities with the RAAF Wireless
       Reserve.
These are the property of The Wireless Institute
of Australia, Tasmanian Division, Southern Branch, PO Box
       371D, Hobart.
Please write them a letter acknowledging receipt
and thanking them for the loan and offering to return them
       when requested.
My guess is that we will not want them back, but
a letter like that should keep everyone happy.

I also enclose a photocopy of a couple of photos
from Charles Harrisson, VK7CH showing C.Buerle at a field
day in 1930. I can get prints for you if you want them but
they're poor quality. Among 7DX's photos is one showing a
seaplane being lifted from the water at Hobart. I wonder
if C.Buerle who was apparently with HMAS Albatross was
associated with that? I must have a look in the library
newspaper files of that time (23/3/30).

I also enclose a photocopy of one of Chas' photos
and Watty's log about another field day and a note I have
       written to myself about it.
Also a delightful extract from the Listener-In
about some difficulties in the WIA here in the early days.
Apparently they attempted a demonstration at a local dance
in 1923 which was a big flop (nobody knew about public
address then) and it caused a lot of bad blood. I'm still
trying to find out more about it. Some things never change.

I started looking in old newspapers to find out
about the Hobart Radio site (VIH) when we obtained it for
our club rooms and continued when we knew that the club was
70 years old but not exactly when it started. Later I was
at a RAOTC lunch and realised that I should try and talk to
them all before its too late. I have a number of tapes and
some notes but I've not yet attempted to sort them out, but
I have to spend some time in hospital and on crutches soon
so that may be a good time to start.
I'm trying to think of what I can send you to
give you an idea of what I have been up to; perhaps my
preliminary notes on Tas WIA and 7DX photos will be a start.

I don't know anything of Tasmanian history but
will pass your PS to a friend who is keen on it. (I arrived
       here in 1948 aged 7)
