ANNU1iL REPORT 1976-7
_This year has, in some respects been .rather a. stonn,y one for the Tasmanian Division.
Total membership of 217 is a slight increase on tt of the previo_µs year although
this bas only been possible through the recruitment of over 30 new members.
Council meetings have been heid in each region of the state and it is pleasing to
see the attendance of a variety of visitors at these meetings With the resignation
of Mike Jenner, VK?FB in July, Ian El.lings, VK?ZIE join Council making it again
representative of all Branches. I must commend the lone members from Branches for
the effort they make in attending Council meetings and hope that their home Branches
make their efforts feel appreciated. Four special and twelve monthly meetings were
held, attendance at the latter being; 7KK 12, 7PF 11, 7ZBY 11, 7FT 10, ?KA. 8,
7ZIE 7 /7, 7FB 4/ 4.
A number of local matters have g·iven concern during the year. In last year's
-eport the uncertainty of Branches financial status was mentioned. In two instances
'"thi. s year Council felt it was necessary to become involved with Branches financial
operations. In (:;;ac.tl C£,se Council was more than satisfied with these operetions
and wish to thnnk the Branch officers for their p2,tience and co-operation at these
times. Members can be assured that Council hEts ever.y confidence in these .l:lranch
office-bearers.
Communication with members h;:-,s always been of prime concern. Broadcasts have
continued to be the mc:,in avenue and these now also include the 11 metre bnnd.
Federal tapes and J..mateur Rwio maw zine have covered most :&'edeni.l news and the
Bulletin as· an insert in 'A.R.' the local scene. Th....,,nks to J..ndrew Dixon, VK7ZAJ ,.
for taking over tne Bulletin E:d.itorship during the year •
Education activities a.re on the increase with the resumption of classes in Hobart
and the continUc:'7.tion of Launceston classes. The ready availability of education2;,l
1"-- .;erial from interstate groups has been o.n outstanding 2.ssistance to tnose bent on
self-instruction.
i.n offEr from the 1.ust_ralian-.hITlerican association to sponsor a contest in conJunction
with the American sesquicentennr.y celebrations was P.,ccepted with pleasure and cont,T'<J.t
ulations go to: Nonn Richarlson, VK7:NR for 1.·finnine this VK7-iv contest. Our dissatis
faction with the present RD Contest rules hrve bern m:,.de known and it is noped that
a set of rules which will allow us a crJD.nce to win will be forthcoming. Increased
participation by our members in the Nation;.:l lt ield DF,y wo.s pleasing.
7
Maybe the
Division should concern itself with encourF:.r_rir1c!,- grrnter participation in these
..:ustni.lian sponsored contests.
Bron ch reports show continual high levels of activity in both social and 1i.ll'lateur
rr:dio orient:=tted cictivitiE::s. The lD,tter of these, perhaps could be increased some
wJ:,+.. Thanks to the North-11est Br:nch for organising .the Annlli.l Dinner and to the
:Nc:,.h for the Annual Convention. Both were well f.1,ttended and most successful. The
Hobart repeater has been brought into oper:>.tion a's hr.ve beacons on 6 metres and 70 cm.
wo:rlc on the Lonah repeater is vroeressing. Th."l,nks to all those who have provided
these services. Increased use of TV teletype hts become app2.rent.

The equipment store this yGar has !k"',d Cl very successful turnover, mainly due to
the efforts of people like To.niel 11.pted, Graeme Reaon and others, and of course
to you the members who supported it. However, it must be discou:r:nging to those
people running the store to find members buying intE;rsta te merely to save a few
cents. Remei-nber, the l,rgsr our purchr, sus, the better deal we will be able to
obtain for you. 1..gtin thanks-to all concerned.
On the social scene, functions were well supported by members, with the two mc.in
functions being, the progressive dinner in September and the Divi:..,ional Bamfest
in Novanber. For the progressive dinner, my thanks go to those people who made
their hom8s available for this function. lis far as the Hamfest is concerned,
