26/9/11 p4 Wireless for SS Westralia - The SS Westralia which left
Hobart yesterday for Sydney, will lie up at that port, where she
is to be fitted with a wireless installation before returning.
The work will be carried out by the Australasian Wireless Company,
which has installed the system on a large number of vessels flying
the Huddart, Parker flag. This will almost complete the
installation of wireless on the steamers of this line, and as the
Union Steamship Company is having its vessels fitted one by one,
while practically all the main boats that call here are fitted
with wireless, the need of a station at Hobart becomes more
       apparent day by day.
6/10/11 p3 Wireless Telegraphy - In the course of a few months there

Dr Mawsons Expedition - After several months of
negotiation Dr Mawson has succeeded in securing a complete system
of wireless for his expedition to the Antarctic. The
Australasian Wireless Company has agreed to provide two stations -
one at the expedition main base in Adele (sic) Land and the other
at Macquarie Island. Messages from the Antarctic will be
transmitted to Macquarie Island, and repeated from there to a
station to be erected in Tasmania, probably on the south coast.

Question of Wireless - The Tasmanian Station
Dr Douglas Mawson, leader of the Antarctic Expedition, interviewed
the PostMaster-General this afternoon regarding his own project to
maintain communication with Australia by a series of wireless
stations, one on the Antarctic continent, and one on Macquarie
Island, to connect with one in the southern part of Tasmania.
Mr Frazer, in reply, said he has not been able to definitely
promise when the Southern Tasmanian station should be erected, but
informed Dr Mawson that when a start was made with the
Commonwealth Governments wireless scheme, the Tasmanian station
would be one of the first to receive attention. The greatest
       possible expedition would be used.

15/5/12 p4 Wireless Warnings Arrangements are being made to use the
wireless stations in Melbourne and Hobart and those to be erected at
Brisbane, Port Moresby, Thursday Island, Adelaide, Darwin, Sydney and
Fremantle, to warn mariners of the approach of tempestuous weather.
This will need a larger staff at the stations now provided at Melbourne
and Hobart, but the Federal Government has already signified its
intention of providing an all-day and all-night wireless service.
The minister for Home Affairs has arranged with the Postal Department
for the Commonwealth Meteorologist to despatch wireless messages
to vessels whenever he has reasons to believe that abnormally bad
       weather is approaching their route.

... [5] ... and the Macquarie Island station.
13/6/12 p4 Prevention of Wireless "Cross-Talk" It was mentioned
recently by the Postmaster General (Mr Fraser) that experiments were
being conducted at Adelaide in connection with the erection of a
wireless station, with the view to preventing "cross-talk" or the
interference of stations with each other when messages are being
despatched. The Commonwealth wireless expert (Mr J G Balsillie)
is in charge of the experiments, which are a continuation of those
undertaken by him at Hobart recently. The PMG is anxious? that his
department emulate the Admiralty which declares that it has abolished
cross-talk in connection with its wireless service. Mr Fraser is
confident that the Commonwealth system is of such a nature that the
Treasurer will never be troubled by legal onslaughts.
