Incorporation of WIA Tas Division

The first meeting of WIA Tasmanian Division was held on Wed February 21 1923, as documented in The Mercury. It is this first meeting that gives the timing for the Golden Jubilee in 1973, and for the Centenary this year.
The article by Lon Jensen ‘Tasmania celebrates its Golden Jubilee’ (Amateur Radio April 1973) states that ‘The Tasmanian Division of the WIA was first established in Hobart slightly before June 1923’
Lon Jensen’s article states that the Institute was incorporated in 1925 as a company under The Companies Act 1920. This was undertaken in Launceston. The intention to incorporate was mentioned in an article in The Examiner 12 Sept 1925 p14. There is no mention of a further meeting. However, the article of 29 October 1925 would suggest that it had taken place.
There is a further incorporation of the Wireless Institute of Australia – Tasmanian Division Incorporated on 11 April 1994 under Associations Incorporations Act 1964. That certificate is in the REAST Archive.
