Thirty'i“our nembers attended the Cctober meeting held at the College of
Advanced Education in Mowbray, Once again we were nleased to welcome Ian VK7ZIE
and Grahan VK7z:Q fron Devonnort,
The prine reason for our visit was an inspection of the CCTV facilities,
They have a small studio, 3 videc tepe nachines and telecine ccuiprent reticulated
throughout the building and to study carrells in the Library, Sceing the plush
carpet and the wealth of facilities available in the building indicated thft
we're getting something back from our taxesi
Business was dispensed with quickly being mainlyv a discussion of Setellite
working and repeater frequency problems,
For our next reeting bring those slides you picked out e few ronths ago,
about 6 on Electronics or allied subject,

REPEATER
Advice has been received of a change in call sign to VK7RAA in keeping with ¢
new WIA .. PMG policy. The contrary of frequencies still rages however it appears
that V<3 will change on February 1st so that we will follow suit., It is hoped
that channel 3 €46 in the new nomenclature¥ can be used for Mt, Barrow. It is
1ikely that channcl 4 will be used on Yr, Wellin vton, The superior receiver
acrial is baek in scrvice and improved co werace has already been noted, There
now appears to be little difficulty cxpericnced in- the city area and Ron 7ZRC
at Howrah can often be heard, Cur best DX renort so far was & rceeption renort

NCRTH WEST ZONE NCTES
The highlight of the ronth was Ladies Night held on the third of the ronth
in place of the usual meeting, Although a brief nccting was held it was the
fastest mofing on rccord, As Tony our President dryly remarked "It's a pity
we fouldn't get them all off as quickly as thath,
sid 7SF turned on a fine picture show, coloured tallies and sorme silent 16 mil
film taken over the ycars at various zone functions, They were well worth viewing
and aroused some nerorics,
About 10 locel hams wices had been taped and were nlayed to the ladies who
had to identify ther, We were all amazed when Lyn XYL 7ZIE picked the lot., She
rust be an‘aV:'%d listener,
The door prize was won by Glen XYL 7MZ, Supper was hended round by the ren
and the ladies enjoyed being waited on for once,
We were delighted to have Frank 7FZR and XYL Brenda with us, not forgetting
the harmonics,
The ham fraternity has been sclidly bit by the current brend of 'flu. I
can think of 7AX, 7ZIE, 7MS,*™MX and others and KYL's haven't escaped either,
It has been very nasty,-*
Two neter activity has been very good in the arca with new rigs appearing
fron time to tire, D2vid 7MS is thc ladest addition to the ranks,

BULLETIMN CF NCRTHERY! ZCMES W, 1.4, TAS, NCVEMBLR, 1972
MR20B PCWER SUP LY BLCWN UP,
If you have been unlicky, as I have, in your M1163's ceasing to function
in your powcr sunply, you may find the fellowing Mocd useful.
Possecssion of sparc 271163 transisters poses no problen, however if you are
having trcuble accuiring 271163's, hcre's a sclution which I tried in ry rig and
to cdate, is still working C.XE,
Having a pair of 3055 trensisters cn hand, I wondered 1f I could press these
into service, As thc 23055 is an NPN and the 271163 NP, pclerity changes
wvhere necessary. I reversed the wiring on terrinals 1 and 2 of the L,T., Filter
Transfermer IV57945. The 1CHm and 320 CHn resistors were replaced with 2 CHn
1 watt and 200 CHn 2 watt resistors respectively, It was discovered it wes casy
to get the supnly operating reliably on rcccive only, the rouchy adjustment being
in the transmit rode wherc extra load on the power supply tekes nlacc, and
additional feed back is rcguired to mistain reliable cscillation, The 2 and 200
C.in resistors appear to be workinz rcliably te date, If you have teo resort to
the use of A3055's, these rcsistors may nced adjusting te suit your particular
rig for optimum resul ts,
