The actual times for the JotA are from 0001 local time on 17th
to 2359 local time on the 18th October. Please let Mike know
if you are already booked in for this event or would like to be
included. He is anxious to know very soon because there is a great
deal to be done in co-operation with the Scout Groups. It has
been found in the past that it pays to set up a few previous
sessions to practise microphone technique etc. It saves a lot of
tongue-tied pauses!

                 Broadcast Newsgathering.
Our hope is to provide an interesting news bulleting every week
but in saying that all the information that comes in is transmitted
in one form or another, we must say also that we don't make the
news, so here are the contacts for you to give us the information
we need: Thursday evenings: 3.585 MHz from 19.30 to 20.00 hrs.
Saturdays: 3.585 MHz from 08.30 to 09.30 hrs. The 2m. repeaters
changing if possible to Ch. 50. And if those don't provide you
with the contact, there's still the phone and the mail.
VK7KDR and VK7JK still require "broadcast secretaries" to act
as focal points for news snippets. Since Joe VK/BJ gave his talk
to the branch last Wednesday on Relaying on 80m (which also
included some sound common sense on originating as well) we are
hoping that more assistance will be forthcoming in this branch.

Bronch Talk: Andrew gave a talk to the Southern Branch meeting on
RTTY mailbox on 5th August and very much appreciated it was, too.
A gret number of questions showed that soon, if we don't get a
communications repeater, we shall have to find someone who has a
QTH that will cover the main Hobart environs to give mailbox
facilities. The packet boys will probably disagree and move more
rapidly into the more sophisticated sphere of information transfer,
but we slowcoaches may prefer an intervening step! 5

New Callsign: A congratulatory note for Geoff, who usad to be VK/NGF
is now the proud owner of VK7FS even though he never thought he
would make it! Aleady becoming regularly heard on the wider ranges
of the HF bands.

Will all who are involved or would like to be involved in the
various WICEN activities that are impending please check carefully
with the WIA broadcasts of the next few weeks. Please check for
details with VK7ZAR in the south and VK7JJ in the north. The WICEN
exercise being run as part of the communications for the Light Car
Club Rally has as its co-ordinator John Duncombe VK7ZPT. All those
three contacts are QTHR.

QRM: Our concerns about the paragraph on page 2 of "A.R" for
August ond how it would affect the lead-time for "QRM" now
appear to have been resolved, and the situation will continue as
for the past few months. Closing date forOctober will be Sept. 16th.
