ISSUE No. 2.
We hope you retained your last issue for reference purposes, as it
is impossible to repeat all the Divisional information each month.
This month's Divisional meetings.
Northern Branch: 14th. August - Segment on "“Amateur Satellite
Communications".
Northwestern Branch: 11th. August.
Southern Branch: 5th. August - Segment on “Broadcast Relaying
on 80 metres".
Broadcast Officers.
The roster for participants in the weekly broadcasts cannot be
completed until all those who are prepared to offer their support
have returned details to their appropriate broadcast officer.
We would be pleased to know a) who is able to help, b) in what
Be.
capacity they are able to help, and when they are able to help.
Once this information is forthcoming, all the blank spaces can
be filled in on the chart. Then the chart will be photocopied
and one sent to all those who are included. Obviously, the more
amateurs offer to support, the less often any particular duty
will come around.
Satellite Report.
RS10 and 11 are now available to amateurs who have access to
either H.F. or 2m. rigs. Operating frequencies are: Mode K uses
15m up and 10m down. Mode T uses 15m up and 2m down. Mode A (which
is similar to the previous RS Satellites) uses 2m up and 10m down.
Combination modes are KT which uses 15m up, and 10 & 2m down; KA
uses 15 and 2m vp and 10m down. 21.160 up to 21.200, 40KHz pass-
band is Mode K. Down link frequencies are 29.36 to 29.40 - these
are for RS10. Mode T uses the same 21MHz frequencies up, and the
downlink frequencies 145.86 MHz to 145.90 MHz. There is a beacon
with telemetry on 29.357 or when the 2m mode is on, 145.857 MHz.
There is also a robot on 29.403 MHz and if they use 2m transmit,
145.903 MHz. All these frequencies are for RS10 and RS11 is
50KHz higher. Period of orbit is about 105 minutes and of you hear
the signals on one day, they'll arrive about 30 minutes later the
next day. VK7PF wants to know of anyone who is operating through
RS10 and 11, and hopes the items in the broadcast will get people
listening and getting a feeling for satellite working. ONE watt
into a crossed 5-element Yagi at maximum range will get you a
signal back.
6metre and 2 metre beacons.
While carrying out minor maintenance on the VK7RST -ém beacon in mid-
July, Alan VK7ZAR and Steve VK7ZST also installed antennas, mast and
feeder for the 2m beacon. Further work is now being done and it's
hoped to be on the air later this year. W.A.G.S. is due special
thanks for financial help in both these projects.
Remembrance Day Contest.
This year's Contest will be held from 08.00 on 15th. August to 07.59
on 16th. August. 10 valid contacts are all that's needed for an entry.
It is hoped to run the Club station VK7SB in Hobart during the Contest
and to this end, Rai VK7VV is looking for operators - 2 CW for one
period and 2 SSB for the other. Full details are in the July
copy of "A.R.". Please contact Rai on 002.727743. ’
