The meeting opened at 8.10 pm after distribution of the
new bye laws which have been printed in booklet form and
are available to all members. Danny VK74DA reported that
the bank A/c stands at $2321-69 with sales for the month
totalling $840-80.

A letter of thanks was received from the Library thanking
us for staging the exhibition and Norman VKT7NR reported
that a tape of the ABC interview is to be donated to the
library.

The Jamboree of the Air is to be held on the 18-19 October
and this yeat is to be co-ordinated by Mike VK72WW so that
doubling up does not occur so 21l those willing to be of
asgistance are asked to eontact Mike who will make the
necessaryv arrangements,

It was with regret that the resignation of Kevin VKT7ZAH
from equipment store officer was accepted due to the
Bressure of a study course. The equipment store has been
aken over by Danny VKBDA and this was notified by motion
at the meeting. The motion was carried unanimously.

We welcome new members Chris Stephenson and John Allum to
the northern branch.

On Saturday the 27th September at Z2pm the Northern Branch
is to hold a film afternoon for members, wives, children and
others. This programme will include 3 cartoons fhr the
children (young of o0ld) plus some interesting documentaries.
Admission will be free but ladies are asked to bring a plate
of afternoon téa. This afternoon is to be held in the
Postal Institute Hall in Cimitre Street.

Peter VKT7PF reports that due to aerial damage possibly
caused by ice there has been a chamge to the zerial system
of the Mt Barrow repeator which has affested the coverage of
this repeater. It is hoped this will not inconvenience users
but it will remain this way until summer when D.C.A. lines-
men can remove the aerials for repair. Malcolm VK72MM and
Mark VK7ZMC have kindly offered to look after supper (did I
gay offered) for the next 3 months while Reg VKT7KK ans XYL
Auu_tte are overseas, Hope thay have a good trip beginning
I believe on the 13th September. The Lecture and the
September meeting is to be given by Col VK7KW and it is
entitled "Hints for the Home Constructoc(Zlectronics".

The proposed screening of the "Magnificent Men in their
Flying Machines" has been cancelled due to a mooted prior
gcreasning by a local T.V. station in the next few months.

Our July Meeting was a real fizzer but this wgs easily made
up for by our August meeting. The attendance was excellent.
A talk was given by VKT7AI on Great Circle Maps and this was
followed by a massive junk auction Bob VK7ZJSacted as auct-
ioneer and with a little help from a couple of 'shills! we
ended up earning about $45.00 for club funds. Thanks for a
jobt well done Bob. (with a voice like his he's a natural! )
Our repeater sghed is up at last and the power soon to te
connected. This now leaves more time to consentrate on the
actual repeater and progress is pleasing.
At last.....the N. W. beacon is on air again.
Local member seen with bleary eyes lately. Seems he has be:n
sacrificing his beauty sleep to get his newly aquired tower
  cleaned up and painted.
Should hear you on the repeater soon Adrian.
A bit of free publicity for the Y.R.C.S. was scrounged
— recently and the results of that have been very good.

VHF Activity "DX Wise" is almost zero. Apart from the
occasional meteor bursts on 6metres there has been no activity -
except for the ever increasing net on 52.525 MHZ which appears to
be used more than the repeater of a weekend by local Launccston
lads. Last weekend I counted nine operators on this frequeucy,
so don't miss out on the DX to be had by not listening between
overs.

The Athol Johnson contest was not as well patronised
as I thought it would be, and to datec only one log has been
returned, so please send in a log. On.,a quick check of the log
about 20 participants took part in the contest.

Two metres is also <ery quiet although the VK3. repeaters
have been heard during the month.
