TECHNICAL
Modulation Check by A. H. Morrisby VK7W.
This piece of equipment has many uses in the sliack, -fcho one in use here is
buil-fc into the antenna tuner with jacks to plug in the appropriate meters and a
link coil mounted near the antenna link coils for pick up. The main use hero is
to moni-fcor modulation percentagG and antenna -fcuning indicator.
One meter can be used vri.th the necessary s^d.-bch, although ML is be-b-fcer to
be 0 - 200uA a 0 -1 nu'x -will be OK and for M2 a 0 -ImA'is sa-bisfactozy. To
calibrate as a modulation percentage indicator it is first necessaiy -bo use a
CRO which is used -bo adjust -bhe •bransiai-fcter to 100^ raodulation. Couple the
modulation Monitor Ugh-fcly to the output of the Transmi-bter 32 in -the A. F. position,
adjust coupling so that 1VO reads half scale, modulate vri. th tome to 100%, oheck M2
reading gnd by adjusting KL and coupling until ML reads half scale and M2 full
scale -the modula'bion percen-bago can be read directly off M2»
M2. is non-linear -bhereforo x-b is advisable to calibrate the meter for
say 25^, 50^ and 75^ modulation,
Other uses are for field strength and neu-fcraliza-bion measuregients.
