Members are reminded -that the Annual General Meeting will be held in the
Club Room, 147 Liverpool St*, Hobar-b, on
SATUEDAY, 23rd MRCH 1963

We would like to see an even bigger attendance than last year, and extend
a cordial invitation to our country members to come along and bring a gueai. Those
who made the trip last year will -tell you what a good show it was,

attention is being concen-fcrated on 2 metres* VK7BL and VK7ZAH wi.ll be operating
from Mt, Barrow in the near futiu-e and YK7MW is firing up from Wafers Lookou-b'qn
Flinders Island. Phil VK7ZAX and Damiy VK7ZDM are now operating on 14^25 and ;
144»352 respectively and they have rocks for 144»1» Dave 7ZAI has a 22 element
array up and Geoff 7ZAS is now using a 10 element yagL wi-bh his communica'fcor»
Erie 7ZEG at Evandale is providing regular tDX' con-bacts for quite a few 2 metre
operators and has been wrked by "VK7ZAI, 7ZAO, 7ZAQ, 7ZAP in Hobarb and 7ZEE at
patlands. On 29th January a •bempera-bure inversion occurred and Wins'fcon 7ZAP 'worked

"Terrible Tuo", Wilf and Reg, succeeded in tracking dowi the fox (Mike 7ZAV) about
15 minutes before -fcransniissions ended. Barney 7ZAK attended very capably to the
barbecue after -fche hunt,
The nexb meeting of the V. H. F. Group will be on Wednesday 20th March when
I w.11 attempt -to deliver a lecture on the "Importance of -fche RLrst Fresnel Zone"
FOX HUNT.
A fox hunt m.11 be held on SATURDAY, 6th April on U4. 1 and 3515
followed by a barbecue at VKpZAK's residence. 'Full details next month.
DISPOSALS
Gear ordered from last month's list is now available to all who
ordered and can be collec-bed at the next meeting or ty con-fcacting VK7GH,
We still have a quantity of ammonium bifluoride on hand if anyone wants
pome, but would bo e help if you could bring a small plastic container.
STRAYS
Mr. J. Broxm (VK7BJ) and Mr. T. Connor CVK7CT) have kindly undertaken to
rebuild the VK7WI VPO.
It is vi.th regret -that we notice the absence of VKTKA's name as a candidate
for the Council this year, Ken has been gecretaiy continu.ously since 1957, and -we.
will all agree that he has earned his retirement. Thanks Ken for a job well dona.
You. Dili now have many more spare hours i& which -bo wrk on that new bsat., '•
Once again the Division wi.il be providing a radio hook up between the roiuing
starter's boat and the finish at the Royal Hobarfc Regatta. We have been doing -this
.job for a number of years now, but, unforbuna'bely I cannot -fcrace -bhe commencing date.
Back in 1929 members operated on phone from the S. S. 'Toora" for rebroadcasting ly
7ZL, and -that was the first time a sMp/shore rebroadcast had been attempted heres
For a few years prior -bo -bha-b Launceston members had organjoeed radio control, at -bhe
Henley on Taiaar Regatta on 200 metres.

Fellow laembers:
I-b is vri-th great pleasure -fchat I am able -to report on another year of
advanceaen-fc for our Ins-fci-bu-fce, a year which has seen an increase in membership,
in our financial position and in ozir relations 'with the public generally.
Membershi s this now stands at 5 Life Menbers, 10$ Full Members and 66 Associg-be
and Studen-b Members, making a total of 176o YOT.IT Coiuicil was forced to uri-be
off some 14 members last year due to their being unfinancial beyond the maxi.m'um
limi-fcs.
Finance: As I have sta-bed our general financial position has improved over the
past year as you will observe from a perusal of the Treasurer's s'tat'eiaen-b.
Club Room Fund; These have shown a steady increase also, bu-b you will doubtless
agree -the increase has been a li'b'tls -boo steady o The fund has risen from £233
last year to f395 at present. At this rate i-fc could be 20 years before we have
our own Club Room.
Activities. These have "been a veritable "mixed bag", in which there have been
H. F. and V. H, F. participa'bion and include con-fces'bs, field days, fox hunts and
barbecue's. Thanl<:s are due -to all those who took part to nake such things a
success*
I think perhaps -bhe best fi.m.c-bion which has been organi.sed ly your Division was
the week-end Hamfest a"b Garapbell Town during November last. This •was voted highly
successful ly all those who attended and it is considered -that this could be inade
an annual func-bion. To the orgaiiisersy ably led ty Ted Cruise YK7EJ, we owe a
sincere vote of -fchanlcs*
L Bureau: The QSL Manager reports that the Bureau handled about 2500 cards
inwrds and about 3200 out-uards for a quieter, but still bu^y, year* Our thanks
to Jack Ba-fcchler VK7JB for a job well doneo
Social Fiuic-bionso During the year cer-fcain social functions were arranged., but
imfor-bunately did. no-fc receivG •fche patronage which -bhe organisers would have liked.
Had it not been for the laembers who brought friends along to swell the gathering
the functions would have been complete flops, •without exception*
Annual Dinner; The las-b Anniial Dinner narked the second occasion upon which our'
ladies have been participants and proved to be a highly enjoyable functiion.
Public Kelatjonsn Our -bhariks are due to our Oublici-by Officer Mr. Ted- Beard
VK7EB for his untiring efforts towards publicising the Insti'bute and i-bs
ac-fci-vities. ^e have had. Tele-vision^ radio and newspaper cover diiring the year,
and our members are becoming knoi'jn for the public-spirited people they are, instead
of being regarded as "radio cranlcs"
General: In corolrr. ion le-b me reiterate •fchat the past year has been asucces^ul
one and express a hope that the coming year -will even be more successful. The-
degree-of success depends upon the d;gree -bo which each member is prepared to ;
con'bri.bute plysically, as well as financially;, and i-fc behoves us ally as members,
to work together for the coLinon good of our Insti'fcu'beo
I wish to express ray sincere thanks "bo our retiring Secretary> for the six years
of faithful and unrelenting effort he has put into -the job. Much of the
Ins'fci'bu-be's success is due in no snail part to this effort. Thanlcs again Ken, ;

of the library :
(a) No books shall be borrowed froin the library without the librarian's permission,
?b) There shall be a charge of Is/- for each book borrowed, 6d.. for each periodical
painphlet, e-fcc, (3d. for copies over 3 years old) ^^ f
(c) All books and magaisines inust be returned to the librarian as soon as possible,
but in any case no later than 30 days from the date it iras borroued. (Especially
