Our last meeting •ua s held at the Glub. Room on the 17th July . vri. th 11
members and one visitor in attendance, John Grace VK7ZJG, John is applying for
membership in -the Institute in the near fti-bure and is an active operator on. 144 mcs«
I-bems discussed included TVI, W. I. G. E. N., the Zgch-fc Club •brariscei'ver,
Jamboree of the Air and -bho'Youth Ba.dio' Scherao, •
In regard to W. I. G. E. N. i-fc TOS plannod. earlier in -bhs year -bo do some-
thing definite in this direction vi.th -bho obJQc-fc of helping out -with the Civil
onergency set up. Such things as finding lo'c. a-fcions where moTale VHP units could
.
"bs positioned quickly in the event of -fcrouble, •'-bo give a -wide coverage of the State
etc. Since the lec'fcure a'b the general meeting howevey and the latest developmen-bs
in connection -wi-bh Civil. Defence, it has bsQn decided •bo wait im-bil it is knovn
just wha-b ig required, and. vhat part the VHF Group can. play in the final
arrangements,
The. matter of the building of -the transceiver for the Royal Zach-b Olub
by the Instii'bu-fce was discussed, and the. response .was voiy good, Geoff D'Eradsn has
donated the copper wire required for the an-fcenna system and Allan Morristy has
•urider-fcakeri the coraplete cons-bruction of the •transmit'ber section. Allan's- reasons
for this •ware rather anusing, but. we can be sure that -the finished arfcicle will
be a fine piece of equijanent,
There -uas a great deal of discussion in regard to -the use of a VHF link
ne-byork in the Jamboree and I am not sure now just . what -bho final decision was.
However it seems that the Scouters concerned feel a need for this service and the
remaining problem is volunteers to supply, and if necessary, operate the link
sta'fcions. It also seeas desirable tha-b we have a link control station which is
served ty a telephone,- so that the information gained on the link can be passed
oh. for publicity piirposes. The date is around -bhe 19th and 20-bh of Op-bober, so
