EDITORI/iL
The Edi-tor has been very busy this month, baby si-fc-bing. Takes some getting used to
so on her behalf, this lot is by the Editor's Editor.
The results of the A^-hol Johnson Memorial Gontes-t were released -this month, and
•to say the least, v/ere ra-ther. disappointingo Wi-bh all the ac-fcivi-by on VHF a-t the
moment, and -the ranks being sv/elled all the time, I would have -thought -this would be
a record year. I hope the resul-fcs, pu'blished later in this b jille-bin, will shock a
few into participation in next years con-fces-to
Speaking of the raiiks being swelled, there are -two or -three new calls on -bhe
6Mx N®t novi ?, and 'we wish you a warm welcome. A few of the call signs active a~t the
inception of the net, frequency- have not been heard for some time and I feel it is
about time we had a full scale WIGEN exercise, for -fcv/o reasons. Firstly, -fco try out
-the system and iron the bugs out, as -this is basically the reason for the net in the
first . place, and secondly,, 'bo reactivate an interes'fc in the net and give some of -the
newer opera'fcors ezperience in message handling etc.
Winter is coming on and for that reason, SOIvix is on the improve, and we hope
that in •the near future this band. vi/ill be frequented by -the Editor, VK7LY. Th.e rig
is opera-bive on C?/ and v/ill shortly be fired on f one.
Was very pleased -bo hear a few Atil signals on 20 the o-ther day. Ws too; So come
on all you chaps who have given the game away because you could not compete v^ith -the
SSB boys. There are -three basic forms of communication, and all have their meri-ts.

After -bhoroughly -besting and finally discarding many solid-s-tate circuits for which
extravagen-fc claims had been made, I finally came into possession of the circui-t; used
in the SWAN 350. Wi-fch slight modificaTions -bo sui-b my requiremen-bs and -the -fcransis-t-
ors on hand, but minus switching, I came up with the above circuit. All -bests were
carried ou-t agains-fc a xtal cali'brated. freq., me-fcer and -this circuit proved to -be -the
most stable I have used- valve or solid-state. I-t is currenUy used in my SSB tran-
ceiver with no reports of drift. In my case -the supply voltage is -baken from the
150V supply -bhru' a 15k. lOw, resistor -bo a 9,, 2v. zener diode.
The output a-fc 5mcs is abou-fc . 75v. or wi-fch a small RFC i -the emitter lead, 2v,
This circuit has been used on 8 & 12 mcs wi-th equal stability.
Although I used Fairchild NPN transis-tors, other -types are qui-te satisfactory.

APRIL MEETING? (FOXHUNT)
This meeting^took the form of a 6m. foxhunt as disscussed at -fche
March meeting, lan, VK?ZZ and Brian, VK7TX were the "Fox" and left the
club rooms about 10 minu-bes before the hounds. After much touring of
the city ar^ close suburbs and many "NOs" it was found that the fox's
trail was up Waterworks roado ViTlnston, VK7ZAP led. the chase up past the
reservoir with David, VK7ZMD a couplo of mlnu-bes behind , and Mike 7ZMC
a -further couple of minutes back with many others making their way
tov/ards the road and reservoirs behind him. Wins-fcon was first to find
the fox followed by David, VK?Zm and Mike, VK7ZMG. Another- twelve
mobiles arrived soon after and the "invasion" of Ridgeway and the fox
hunt was complete.
Mike, VK7ZMC was selected the second fox and" went -to ground"
along a street off Lynton Ave, Winston was first again to locate the
fox followed by Reg VK7ZAO and David VK7ZMD. Well done Winston and thanks
to lan, Brian and Mike for being the "Foxes".
2 METER ACTIVITIES
ery little activity on this band as compared to that of a couple
of months ago. Dave, VI<7^. Y has been on for Slow Morse, as has Sandy,
VK7ZFL.
6 METER ACTIVITIES
Barry, VK7ZBJ has a controlled carrier transmitter newly completed
Afterra few troubles Barry has the rig producing a large signal; on the
band. Well done. It; sounds very nice. Slow morse is still continuing on
the net frequ'. ncy.
New stations to be heard on 6m. are Roger, VK7ZUVV and Phil, VK7ZPT,
Phil has had some transmitter troubles but seems to be getting things
right.
NORTH AND NORTmVEST ACTIVITIES

VK7ZMW is located at North Down at present and is oonstructlng 2m. gear.
