R. So Contest day once more comes round, and no dou'b-fc in all parts of Aus-fcralia,
seldom-used rigs will be dusted down and tried ou-b in preparation for the contest.
In -the 24 hours or so of the contest a rare phenomena will occur. The latecomer to
-the scene will have -trouble trying to find a clear spot to operate, no-t from
commercial Q,RM, Tsu-b from the great number of amateur s-tations. By late Sun ay night
the bands will once more have reverted -to -their usual state of compara'fcive calm.
(VJell, maybe we wouldn't appreoiate an RoD. con-fces-t every day of the year, bu-b jus-fc
imagine R, D. aotivi-by spread over 12 months;)
Pause a momen-fc, 'before you push -the key, a^id spare a -bhough-fc for the lads vho
made the RoB. — -those whose supremo sacrifice we coiiunemmora'te each year. Spare a
thought and -then — Go -to i-t; Best of luck,
Anne VK7LY.

Projec-b Australiss Teleme-try will now appear on both HP and VHF beacons. As -bhe
system works 'by switching the -bransmitters over a number of millisecs., i-fc will
halve -the power drain, and if a faul-fc . occurs -telemetry will s-bill Tse able -to be heard.
EUROSGAEs The European Oscar has no-fc yet arrived in -the USA, but should do so wi-thin
-the next few weeks. Not much correspondence has been ciroula-bed, prolsably because i-fc
is a one man effort for the greater part. It will go into orbit late this year or
early nex-fc year, and is very similar -bo OscarIII, having a 2 me-tre repeater (in anQ.
ou-b on -bhe 2 metre band), aj-id going into a 500 mile orbit.
Oscar Vs This will be a repeat of Oscar. IV. The inpu-t frequency will be 144. 1 and
output freci. 431. 97 mcs. It will go up in February 1967, into a 20, 000 mile orbit.
Oscar V, because of height of orbi-b, will present i-bs own problem in tracking,
which will be discussed a-b a future dateo It is recommended -tha-t for Australia and
Euroscar, a circularly polarised mtenna be used, as this type greatly minimises
fading. A Helix (QST Nov. 1965) or crossed. Yagi are suggested, and the antenna
should steer -both vertically and horizajitally (this has shown up markedly on Oscar
III).
Eleva-bion and azimu-fch bearings will be forwarded -to all capital ci-bies^ in
VK7 -these should do for both Ho'hart snd Launces-ton.

VE7EJ has received a promotion, a^d in future will be travelling through VE7
quite a bit. Beckon that SSB rig will be i^ the car in future, eh Ted?
After 6 years of wai-bing, lan VE7ZZ has received a QSL from Mississippi, and is
now eligible for W. A. S» , as well as havir. g reached DXCC status.
Ray Bavis, ass. member, has passed either the Radio or T. V« Ops»(we're not sure
which)and only needs Regs, now ±o be active OH VHP, Les Cooper (ass. ) and David Vm
Galen sat for the las-t AOGP exam and are anxiously awai-fc results.
Grosby VK7CR, is now -back from Gm^erra? Due to antenna problems, Crosby had
only a couple of scra-bcliy con-fcac-ts back -bo VK?.

At the las-t meeting of -the VHP group, -the Ross Hull Memorial Con-test rules were
read and the amendments unanimously approved of. Main changes to the rules for the
contes-fc are', (a) Boints for scoring, (b) Instead of 7 consecutive days, - the 7 best
days can be picked. A foxhunt will be held after''-the next meeting, timed to start at
2030J the meeting will start at 2000 hrs. as usual»
M. Co W. practice will re-commence on August l6tho , the ins-truc-tors taking a well
deserved rest in -the meanwhile. And -talking about CW, believe congratSo will be in
order within the next few weeks for -the 3 brave ones who tackled -the las-fc exam.
David Johnson has now taken ou-t a callsign, so hope its not -too long before we
hear VK7ZDV's voice cu-fc-bing the ether.
Mike 7ZMC, will soon be mobile on 6 metres on.ce again, having joined -the upper
society of Ho'bar-t with an Austin l800; Harvey, YZffl', has joined -bhe H. P, gang with
abou-b 60 wa-tts^on 6 metres. Think i-ts about time we star-fced a QRP club on VHP,
limiting all -bxs. to 3 wat-ts or so. HI 1
Mystery, deep and dark, lurks on -the eastern shore, at the residence of John,
7ZJG, 5 from secret mutterings heard on 2 metres, John's engaged on a very VERY,
secret projec-to We have suspicions of what it migh-b be, but for the presen-t will
keep quiet 1
Mike 7ZAV, changes his voice quite frequently nowadays. ; believe he has to
alternate transmitters in order to -bransmi-fc an intelligible signal. He's ^ust
waiting for -fcha-t firs-t prize in Ta-t-tSo to come -through, -bo completely re-equip -the
shack,
From the North and Nor-th-west, via our very reliable agen-fc 007—oops, Sandy 7ZFL
comes quite an interesting round-up.
On 29-th June, an unexpected opening occurred on 2 metres, being p:articularly
good to VK3. S-ta-fcions heard opera-fcing were 7DK, 7ZLX, ?BR, 7LX. (possibly should be LZ)
7ZBW, 7ZAH, 7ZBE, 7ZAA.
Trevor, 7ZLX, is soon ±o erect a 4 stacked 10 element array for 2 metres^ Harry
VK73R, is rebuilding eq.u.ipmen-b, and Roger, 7ZSD, is constructing a 60 wa-fc-fc 6 metre
rig.
Reg,, 7RL is well prepared for his impending visit -bo VK4, and will take with
him 6 and 2 metre gear, so watch ou-b for Reg. DX-wise. Neville 7ZEE, will be SX
hunting in fu-bure, as he's moving to a new QTH in Burnie with brighter prospects for
BX.
Bob o 7ZAA, is repor-fced -bo be progressing well with his 6 metre mobile. Brian
7ZBE, is active once again, having built a KGW modulator for -the 2 metre rig0, (believe
Brian can now ~be unders-tood when he speaks)
Mike 7ZMl''J has a 2 metre conver-tor wor. cing now, and can work no.rth and north-
wes-fc stations from his QTH at I\Torthdown, n.eafc Devonport. Kevin 7ZAH, is in the
process of building a new exciter (VFO) for , 6 and. 2 metres.
Guess thats all folks. 731 3 Anne
