o.. How Linear is a Linear Amplifier?.
The author describes the -term, Intermodulation Distortion, and indicates a test set
up, ' employing a receiver, two tone audio gen. 5 a panoramic adaptor and a dummy
load'which may 'be used to de-fcermine the i. m. d.

'b. Some Ground Rules for Sweep Tube Lin. Amp. Design.
This ar-fciole considers some techj-iiques that can "be applied, to all TV sweep tubes
sui-fca'ble for use in lin. amps. A circuit is included using 6KD6s.

An interes-bing ar-bicle which includes a. useful table describing nine commonly

The Transistor Radio Handbook.
During -the mon-fch a copy of The Transistor Radio Handbook, edi-bored by
Donald. S-boner and L. Earnshaw; was purchased, for -the Library and. as this contains
some very interesting material I will review i-t briefly in the following paragraphs -
The took con-fcains 172 pages broken up into the following chapters -
Inside Semiconduc-fcors.
Audio Amplifier Circuit Sc
.
R. F. Qircui-fcs.
Receivers.
RF Power Amplifiers.
Power Supplies.
The Gonstruction of several small receivers, suitalsle for "bhe newcomer.,
and a rather sophisticated comiiiunica-tions receiver is detailed in chapter 4. It is
interesting to note that the editors have 'ci-ven consi deration -to the pligh-t; of any
would be constructors from other than W land for they have included qui-fce a lot
of information om the construction and specifica-tions of e. g. IF transformers
and o-ther i-bems which would not be readily availa'ble ou-bside of -the U. S. A. No
doubt Lester Earnshaw (a ZL) had a lot to do with this thinking.
The book also includes a few AM rigs and for the SSB man loth a Phasing
Exciter and a Fil-fcer Exciter. To comple-fce the SSB side a VFO and. a 40 Me-ber
SSB Transceiver are featured.
The VHP en-bhusias-fc is not forgotten either for the following circuits and
construo-fcional informa-tion appears -
A 6 Meter Concerter. A 2 Met.er Converter, and. A 2 Meter Transmi'tter*
In summary the 'book contains a weal-th 'Of informa-fcion' for the ama-beur or SWL
and seems to be sufficiently comprehensive to preven'b the contrac-tor from having
trouble through lack of necessary detail. I am sure that you will enjoy reading it.
