2 METER ••TR-ANSi-STOK'IS-ED" SUPER-RESEN;'- FIG. l. •
Tests indicate -that this unit, sensitivity •w.ise.,'is e:q.ual .t.o or. 'be-bter -than- the
usual -tube -types. The whole uni-t can be buil-t; into a very small package, using either
headphones or a small in'built speaker. For use in fox hunts, it is advisa'ble to con-
s'-truc-fc it in :a shielded •'box,, so -tliat only the signal present from -the aerial is de-b-
efcfced, and no signal en-bers directly into the circui't to confuse the hunter.
Construction is s-t raig.ht-forward., using -the usual -bransis-tor wiring methods,
o n a Z]',I.D type prin'fced. oi.ro.ui-b. 'board, one of your ovm, or matnx board.
The audio output'.is ; fed into a commercial'"transis-bor audio amplifier or a home
brew type.
If any difficul-ty is experienced in getting the unit "fco operate, or in finding
the band,, any of. -the VHF boys will .be pleased to help you out. The possibili-ty of
using a compu-bor board type of transistor in place of -bhe- OC171 is being inves-fciga-ted.
144 mhz. 3 ELEIIENT'. YAGI. FIG. 2.
This yagi, a-t -the expense of forward gain, has been designed, -to have a high back
-bo front ratio, ideal for transmitter hunting. The beam is ou-fc for approx 144. 5mhz
opera-fcion, and -the gamma match is adjusted to this freq.uency with the details given.
It is designed for 70 ohm coax. as this minimises; stray pickup in strong signal
areas, but a suitable ratio folded dipole and 300 ohm ribbon could be used. For dipole
design purposes, -the radiation resistance is approximately 3D olttns.
